If you have long wanted to install a glass countertop in the kitchen, but doubt your own solution, this article is for you. Advantages, disadvantages and advice of an experienced designer
Together with designer Elena Karasaeva we continue to get acquainted with various materials for kitchen countertops.
Choose one material is not easy, because the table top should be strong, smooth, resistant to cuts, moisture and temperatures. It is daily exposed to aggressive effects: on the countertops, something is constantly dropped, spilled hot or dyed, put heavy and cut with something sharp. All this is usual in the kitchen. Today we will consider the advantages and disadvantages of glass countertops.
The main and undoubted advantage of such countertops is that glass is a non-porous material. On a strong toughened glass, you can easily cut, spill on anything, dirt and smells it does not absorb.
The glass table top easily tolerates high and low temperatures. It is easy to look after the glass, it is hypoallergenic and does not emit any smells.
Today you can not ask about the limit of color variations of glass. They are not here. If you do not find the right shade or texture in the palette, the manufacturer will most likely be able to produce a glass countertop according to your preferences.
One of the main drawbacks of a glass tabletop is the cost. Still, this material requires a special approach, especially when it comes to large worktops. However, we know that we always have to pay for quality, so let us attribute, perhaps, a high cost to the peculiarities of the material.
Do not expect the glass tops impossible. They, of course, are strong and wear-resistant, but the natural stone is still stronger, so care during operation is still worthwhile.
